Allen grew up all over the world and Canada, with her later youth residing in the Cowichan Valley. She attended Carlson's School of Dance and Steps Ahead Dance to complete her early dance training in RAD Ballet, ISTD Modern and Tap, Contemporary, Lyrical, Jazz, and Musical Theatre. After Graduation from High School, she ventured to Vancouver to further her dance training at Simon Fraser's School of Contemporary Arts. She successfully completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Dance. During her time at SFU she trained in Graham, Cunningham, Improvisation, Limón, and Ballet. While completing her degree, she performed in repertory work choreographed by Company 605, Rob Kitsos, and Justin A. Chambers. Well Contemporary is her passion; she also holds certificates in RAD Ballet up to Grade 8 Award and Intermediate Vocational levels, along with ISTD Modern Advanced 1. Well at SFU she was Captain of the SFU Athletics Dance Team for three years, who performed for the NCAA University games. She has choreographic works that were showcased in Ascension and Ouroboros. Her passion for dance and the therapeutic value it offers has pushed her to further her training in the Dance for PD training program in the coming months after she participated in a practicum with Dance for PD in Vancouver. Amberlee is now a full-time dance instructor in Contemporary, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical, Tap, Musical Theatre, and Ballet, holding CDTA Licentiate membership in Modern Dance and Associate membership in Ballet. 


Laura Kelsey Music

A WCMA-nominated singer currently living in Nanaimo, B.C., Laura Kelsey has fronted metal, blues and folk bands for over a decade, playing events and festivals across the province. She brings these musical influences together to create unique original songs inspired by natural West Coast elements; honesty and dreams; and the welfare of all living things, which she performs with her dynamic, soulful voice.

Prism Dance Connections is a Youth Specialized Dance School based in Nanaimo BC.

Vancouver Island born dancers, Katie Deelman and Samantha Madge have had the pleasure of watching the various genres of dance in many local communities evolve and grow with the always changing industry. With a combined 25 years of experience, they have taught for numerous dance schools from Victoria to Port Alberni and everywhere in between. These experiences have allowed them the opportunity to see where something which focuses on advanced jazz training (like Prism does) could be a valuable asset to Vancouver Island’s youth. PDC was born out of a desire to do more than just train dancers; it was created to make healthy, strong, well rounded dance professionals. Katie and Sam share a creative connection that inspires and pushes one another in all avenues. They are invested in enriching the local arts community here in Nanaimo and giving back to the community they work in. They are so excited to be participating in SHINE 2020 which will give them and the dancers an opportunity to give back to Nanaimo and raise money for the new Nanaimo Hospital ICU.

Originally from Vancouver, Tami has called Nanaimo her home for almost 20 Yrs. Her love for her "home"l is strongly reflected in her memorable experiences I music, both performing solo and with her group; "Cold Cut Trio", have let her explore a wide variety of styles and genres. Tami says "I thoroughly enjoy and frequently perform at many fundraisers across the region". When asked Why? "it's an opportunity to give back to my community and the people. "I love getting to meet and work with the most amazing people".

Carmella Luvisotto

Carmella Luvisotto, Band Director, has been teaching music at Wellington Secondary School for 24 years.  Carmella’s passion for music was passed on to her by her father and her many music mentors.  The Wellington Secondary Band Program is most noted for its Jazz Academy Program. Students have won and continue to win awards Nationally and Internationally.

Bassist Philip Morosan is grade 11 and has been playing an instrument since he was five.  Harp is Philip’s first instrument of choice followed by Baritone Saxaphone and Bass.  Philp most recently was the Baritone sax player in the BC Music Educators Honour Jazz Band.


Pianist Petra Dobek is in grade 11 and plans to pursue music at the post-secondary level.  Petra is a multi- instrumentalist.  Most recently she had the chance to attend the Port Townsend Jazz Camp where she has been mentored and continues to be mentored by Quincy Jones signed pianist, Justin Kauflin.


Drummer Daniel Mottahedeh is in grade 12 and plans to pursue music at the post-secondary level. Over his years with the Wellington Secondary Jazz Academy, he has won several awards, including the MusicFest Canada Big Band Drummer of the year award.

Proud to be serving the Nanaimo community for 27 years. Classes are offered in Ballet, Pre-Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical Jazz, Tap, Pointe, Modern, Musical Theatre and Performing Company for all ages 3 to Adults. We are located in the North Nanaimo area, on the top floor of the Applecross Business Centre. Each year, the teaching staff looks forward to developing your child’s love of dance. Whether he or she is dancing for recreation and pleasure or pursuing a performing or teaching career, each student possesses unique talent and ability – precious gifts for us to develop.

Activate My Fitness 

Bringing experience humour, enthusiasm, compassion and gratitude is the foundation of Activate My Fitness. Genya is a health coach medical exercise and dance professional for all ages and abilities, based in Nanaimo since 2005. It's an honour and a pleasure being welcomed as part of the SHINE team for a great cause in the community, sharing her lifelong love for the art of dance in this spectacular production! Ramona the Bellydancer



Ramona is a solo professional bellydancer, best known for her extensive lifelong training in classical and more contemporary forms of dance, that bring a distinct grace, originality and versatility to her career in the ancient art of bellydance. Ramona’s bellydance credits include performances at numerous prestigious resorts and corporate functions. She has toured extensively with famed Mediterranean ensemble ‘Pavlo’, has been a featured performer on Carnival Cruises and regularly entertains locally at Yiamas Greek Taverna in Courtenay with the infamously well-known Greek bouzouki player, Yannis.
